Residents of Bagna and surrounding communities along the Shiroro axis in Niger State have fled their homes, abandoning their belongings, as armed bandits continue to advance through the area. Families are relocating to safer locations amid the escalating attacks.
It was gathered that recent killings and kidnappings in the region have intensified fears, driving the mass displacement of residents.
The Lakpma Youth Assembly has sounded the alarm over the severity of the crisis, calling for urgent intervention to protect the affected communities.
Quoting the Lakpma Youth Assembly, Crusaders Radio reported on Tuesday that armed bandits have taken control of over 100 communities in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. At the time of the report, the attackers were reportedly advancing on Bagna, forcing residents to abandon their homes and flee with only essential belongings.
The mass displacement has affected women, children, and the elderly, many of whom are seeking refuge in neighbouring towns and villages. Community members noted multiple attacks over the past week, highlighting the movement of bandits across the Shiroro axis.
A video posted online by Crusaders Radio showed locals, including women, children, and the elderly, fleeing the village in haste.
Authorities have been urged to step up security patrols and provide safe corridors for residents leaving the affected communities.
The displacement has also created urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical assistance.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to messages.
