Senator Bassey Commences Training, Empowerment In Akwa Ibom
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-east, Dr. Aniekan Bassey has commenced a 6-day training and empowerment programme for petty traders across the Akwa Ibom Uyo Senatorial District on Wednesday.
The programme, which was flagged off by the Director General of Team Aniekan Bassey, Obong Godwin Awah at the Senatorial Constituency Office, was attended by hundreds of local traders.
The training is being handled by the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), a reputable institution known for its expertise in rural enterprise development and agricultural capacity building.
According to Obong Awah, the training is designed to equip participants with modern business strategies, including basic financial literacy, inventory management, customer relations, and the use of digital tools for sales and record-keeping.
“The overarching aim is to help petty traders scale up their businesses, adopt sustainable practices, and become more competitive in today’s evolving marketplace,” he stressed.
He reaffirmed Senator Bassey’s commitment to the economic empowerment of his constituents, especially those in the informal sector who drive much of the local economy.
Also speaking, the Senator’s Director of Protocol and Programme Director, Hon. Desmond Etim, said “This training is about giving our traders a real chance to grow. Empowerment is not just about giving money. It is about equipping people with what they need to thrive.”
He further explained that programme is expected to run in phases to accommodate traders from all the local government areas in the Senatorial District, with follow-up support and monitoring to ensure the successful application of the knowledge gained.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Asuquo Edet, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and lauded Senator Bassey for his continuous efforts in promoting human capital development in the district.
