Akwa Ibom Stand Still As Senator Bassey Flags Off Free Medical Outreach

Akwa Ibom state stood still as Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Uyo Senatorial District, officially flagged off the phase one of his three days free medical outreach at the Methodist General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, on Monday, Naija News House gathered.

The three days outreach, aimed at providing accessible healthcare to residents of Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Atai, Uruan and Uyo Local Government Areas, attracted a large crowd of residents.

Naija News House had earlier reported how Senator Bassey set to shut down Akwa Ibom state for Free Medical Outreach, Massive Grant and empowerment.

Naija News House  gathered that, The event, which was monitored by the National Productivity Centre, Abuja, through its Assistant Director, Mrs. Abimbola Usman, saw the presence of several dignitaries including the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Augustine Umoh; the Director General of the Aniekan Bassey Campaign Council, Dr Godwin Awah; the Member representing Uruan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Itorobong Etim, the Transition Committee Chairman of Uruan, Hon. Iniobong Ekpenyong; the Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, Sir Okon Okon; the Deputy Political Leader of Uruan, Engr. JB Effiong, and the Village Head of Ituk Mbang, Obong Emmanuel Bassey, among others.

Addressing the people, Senator Aniekan Bassey, who was represented by Dr Godwin Awah, expressed his commitment to improving healthcare services in his senatorial district and emphasized the importance of providing quality medical care to those who may not have easy access to it.

He said the outreach was part of his continuous efforts to fulfill the promises made during his electioneering campaign, adding that he was determined to ensure that no one in his domain is left behind when it comes to healthcare.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Umoh, commended Senator Bassey for his initiative, highlighting the significant impact it would have on the lives of the beneficiaries, maintaining that “the outreach is not just the fulfilment of a campaign promise. It is a life-saving intervention and we are grateful to Senator Bassey for his dedication to the health and well-being of our people.”

Others, who spoke, including Hon. Itorobong Etim and Hon. Iniobong Ekpenyong, expressed their appreciation for the medical outreach, noting that it aligned with Governor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E Agenda in enhancing public health and ensuring that all citizens have access to necessary medical services.

The free medical outreach offered a range of services, including general health screenings, surgeries, eye examinations, and the dispensing of medications.

Over 410 residents received eye tests, with 250 being provided with prescription glasses. The outreach also scheduled over 100 persons for surgeries. The outreach is expected to also address critical health issues that had previously gone untreated due to financial constraints.

As the outreach continues, it is expected to serve more communities within the senatorial district. The first day of the event concluded with the distribution of medications and health counselling to residents.

This initiative by Senator Bassey is one of his several complementary efforts aimed at supporting Governor Umo Eno to address healthcare challenges in the senatorial district, and to also set a precedent for future interventions that prioritize the health and well-being of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Naija News House understand that another phase of Free Medical Outreach will commence on 29th-31st August at General Hospital, Etinan.

However, NNH reported that, As part of his 800 million mega empowerment, the senator promised to distribute computer sets to selected secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, 1,000,000 each agro grant to 100 farmers and back to school initiative
