Electricity, Scholarships, Infrastructure Key To My Constituency Growth – Senator Lawal Usman

Senator Lawal Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has explained the rationale behind his recent interventions in electricity supply and other development projects across his constituency, describing power, education and infrastructure as critical to improving the living conditions of the people.

The Senator made this known during an interview with journalists in his office on Thursday, where he said the provision of transformers to several communities was driven by the reality that many areas had been without electricity for more than two years.

According to him, access to power remains a top priority for his constituents, stressing that electricity is central to economic activities and daily life.

“Light is everything. If there is no light, how do you expect people to stay or do business? That is why we decided to invest in transformers that will directly touch the common man,” Usman said.

He explained that the transformer projects were designed to serve thousands of residents, adding that the initiative was aimed at easing the hardship caused by prolonged power outages in affected communities.

Beyond electricity, the Senator highlighted other empowerment and development initiatives carried out in Cardona, noting that the interventions went beyond the provision of transformers.

Usman disclosed that over 1,000 students had benefited from an ongoing scholarship scheme for higher education, covering institutions such as Kaduna State University (KASU), Al-Qalam University and other tertiary institutions.

He said the scholarship programme was sustainable and would run until beneficiaries completed their studies, adding that the initiative would continue for new beneficiaries in subsequent years.

On renewable energy, the senator acknowledged the importance of solar power but noted its limitations, particularly in powering household appliances and small-scale businesses.

“Solar light is good, but it is not enough. You cannot power home appliances, sewing machines or welding equipment with just solar light. That is why we are complementing solar initiatives with transformer projects,” he said.

Speaking on road infrastructure, Usman assured that outstanding projects, including the Kabala West Road, had been captured in the current year’s project plans and would be executed.

He also explained that priority in the scholarship scheme was being given to science-based courses such as engineering, medicine and agriculture, with emphasis on strong academic performance.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, stressing that his interventions were aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for people across his constituency.
