Senator’s Aide Resigns Over N20,000 Monthly Salary

An aide to the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Olajide Ipinsagba, has resigned his appointment, citing a monthly salary of N20,000, which he says falls far below the national minimum wage of N70,000.

Tunbosun Awe, who served as a ward liaison officer at Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State, made his resignation public in a letter on Wednesday.

In his resignation letter, Mr Awe said the amount he was being paid no longer aligns with the current economic realities in the country.

“This is sequel to the N20,000 monthly salary payment to me, which is against the present economic realities and a far cry from the national minimum wage of N70,000,” Mr Awe said.

He explained that he had sought an audience with the senator at different intervals to request an upward review of his pay, but to no avail.

Awe stated that his working relationship with Senator Ipinsagba dated back to 2006 when he served as the secretary of his campaign group at the start of his senatorial ambition.

Lamenting his plight, he said, “Especially, when it is fully established with you that N20,000 is the same amount you offered me as your personal assistant in 2007.”

“Destiny brought us together in 2006, when your Senatorial bid was birthed with the caption, Concept 2007, while I served as the secretary of your campaign structure in Ondo North Senatorial District,” he added.

He also recalled working as a personal assistant to Mr Ipinsagba when the senator served as Special Assistant to the Government on Industrialisation during the administration of the late former Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Despite his resignation, Mr Awe thanked the senator for the opportunity to serve.
