Teenage Boy Arrested Trying To Sneak Under Aircraft At Airport
Security operatives attached to the Airport Police Command have intercepted a 14-year-old boy, identified as Eke Miracle, after he allegedly attempted to sneak into the restricted aircraft area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026, when airport security personnel discovered the minor on the airport tarmac while allegedly trying to unlawfully gain access beneath an aircraft preparing for operations.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Airport Police Command, ASP Mohammed Adeola, the boy’s actions constituted a serious breach of aviation security protocols within one of Nigeria’s most sensitive operational environments.
Adeola explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the juvenile had illegally gained access to a restricted section of the airport without authorisation, an act that violates Sections 2 and 3 of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) byelaws governing safety and access control at aviation facilities.
“The Airport Police Command intercepted a 14-year-old male, identified as Eke Miracle, in connection with a stowaway attempt at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” Adeola said in the statement.
He added that the teenager was found on the airport’s tarmac area, where he was allegedly attempting to position himself beneath an aircraft.
“The minor was discovered on the airport tarmac while attempting to unlawfully gain access beneath an aircraft, an act which constitutes a serious breach of aviation security protocols within a highly sensitive operational environment,” Adeola stated.
Following his interception, the police said the teenager was immediately taken into protective custody in accordance with legal procedures and child protection protocols.
Authorities said the police quickly contacted the boy’s parents and ensured that the case was handled in line with established juvenile protection standards.
“Upon interception, the minor was taken into protective custody in line with due process and established child protection procedures. His parents were promptly notified, and all necessary protocols were observed, including the conduct of the interview process in the presence of his parents,” Adeola explained.
The police spokesperson further stated that the command ensured that the teenager was provided with appropriate care, support and welfare considerations throughout the process.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.
The police commissioner described the airport as a critical national asset that requires strict compliance with security regulations at all times.
“The airport remains a critical national asset that demands the highest level of vigilance and strict adherence to aviation security protocols,” Ogunbode stated.
While assuring that the case would be handled according to the law, the police boss urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the activities and movements of their children.
“Parents and guardians must exercise greater vigilance over their children and wards, particularly regarding movements around restricted and high-risk environments such as airports.”
The command also confirmed that the case would proceed under Nigeria’s juvenile justice framework, stressing that the boy would be arraigned before the appropriate juvenile court.
“The case will be handled in accordance with applicable juvenile justice procedures, and the minor will be charged before the appropriate juvenile court,” the statement added.
Airport authorities and the police have continued to stress that stowaway attempts pose significant safety risks, not only to the individuals involved but also to aviation operations.
