VIDEO: Moment Police Officer Steals Sowore’s Glasses During Police Protest In Abuja

A police officer, believed to be acting on the orders of top police authorities, has snatched the medicated eyeglasses of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore during the ongoing #PoliceProtest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Sowore had arrived at the Force Headquarters on Monday in solidarity with retired police officers, demanding better salaries and retirement benefits for both serving and retired personnel.
Eyewitnesses said that while Sowore was standing at the main gate of the Force Headquarters, a uniformed officer approached, forcibly removed his glasses, and fled into the main building.
The incident sparked outrage among protesters, including retired police officers, civil society groups, and activists, who are now demanding the immediate return of Soworeās glasses and an explanation for the act.
Reacting to the development, Sowore said he was not surprised, alleging that the police hierarchy orchestrated the action to intimidate him.
āIt was stolen, and we have been able to get the video of the police who stole it,ā he said.
āThey are police thieves, and they are stationed to steal things. The way they are stealing pension; anything they see, they steal.ā
As of the time of filing this report, the protesters defied the rain and remained at the scene, insisting on the immediate return of Soworeās prescription glasses.
They also rejected the bottled water and soft drinks offered by the police authorities.
