Nine Agreements Signed As Nigeria, Türkiye Deepen Strategic Partnership

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has received the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nigeria, His Excellency Mehmet Poroy, to review and advance the outcomes of the recent State Visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Ankara.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, focused on consolidating the gains of the visit and strengthening Nigeria–Türkiye relations as strategic partners.

In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy expressed appreciation for the excellent coordination by the Nigerian authorities, which contributed to the success of the State Visit. He noted that the President’s visit to Ankara had further deepened bilateral relations between both countries and reaffirmed their status as strategic partners.

The Turkish Ambassador also expressed optimism over the timely implementation of the decisions and agreements reached by the leaders of both countries.

Responding, Ambassador Tuggar described the State Visit as historic and transformational, noting that it marked the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria–Türkiye relations.

He commended the signing of nine landmark agreements during the visit, describing them as mutually beneficial and critical to advancing cooperation between the two governments and peoples.

The Minister further called for enhanced collaboration in capacity building and training, particularly through strengthened partnerships between the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy, Ijanikin, Lagos, and the Turkish Diplomatic Institute.

Both sides also agreed on the need to sustain open channels of communication and structured follow-up mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of agreed outcomes. In this regard, they resolved to convene a Political Consultative Meeting later in the year to drive targeted and measurable results.
