Terrorists Attack Churches, Abduct Dozens of Worshippers in Kaduna
Bandits on Sunday carried out a coordinated attack on multiple churches in the Kurmin Wali area of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting more than 100 worshippers during church services.
A source with relatives among the victims said the assailants stormed the churches while worship was ongoing and forcefully took congregants away. According to reports, the attackers later released about ten captives, mostly those considered vulnerable.
Security agencies and relevant authorities have been alerted to the incident, while efforts are ongoing to gather further details and secure the release of the abducted worshippers.
Kaduna State has continued to experience frequent and deadly attacks by armed bandits, particularly in its southern axis. In a related incident earlier this month, bandits reportedly killed four members of a family during an overnight attack in Kachia town, Southern Kaduna.
The January 3 attack occurred near the newly established Federal University of Applied Science, close to the headquarters of Kachia Local Government Area. A family member confirmed that the victims were Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife, Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son, Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and another relative, Adam Waziri.
“They are all four killed by the bandits,” the source said.
According to residents, the attackers arrived in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving several others injured. The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Residents described the incident as terrifying, expressing concern over the persistent insecurity in the area despite its proximity to major institutions and security formations.
