2027: APC Dismisses Speculation Over Tinubu–Shettima Ticket
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as speculative and unfounded.
In a statement issued on the matter, the ruling party said its attention had been drawn to a growing media frenzy over the alleged replacement of Vice President Shettima, noting that the rumours recently escalated with the mention of specific individuals purportedly being considered for the position.
The APC stated in clear terms that the reports are “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” warning that they are capable of creating unnecessary tension and confusion within the polity.
The party urged media organisations to refrain from providing platforms for rumour peddlers and what it described as mischievous news sources of questionable credibility, whose aim is to sow discord.
According to the APC, existing laws and electoral regulations still place a ban on political activities ahead of the next general elections, stressing that discussions about the 2027 presidential ticket are premature.
“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement said, adding that the administration’s bold reforms are steadily transforming the economy, fostering prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making statements that could fuel needless speculation, urging them to concentrate on diligent service and on strengthening the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to the success of President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a visionary leader whose policies are repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.
