FULL LIST: Traffic Offences And Penalty Fees In Nigeria

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has outlined various traffic offences and their corresponding penalty fees as part of efforts to promote road safety, discipline and compliance with traffic regulations across Nigeria.
The penalties, which apply to motorists, fleet operators and other road users, are aimed at reducing road crashes, ensuring safer highways and discouraging traffic-related misconduct.
According to the schedule, fleet operation violations attract the highest fine of ₦200,000, reflecting the critical role fleet operators play in maintaining road safety standards. Other serious offences, including preaching or hawking in commercial vehicles, inadequate construction warning signs, rejection of road accident victims by medical personnel or hospitals, and dangerous driving, each attract a fine of ₦50,000.
Failure to report a road crash and operating a vehicle with forged documents attract penalties of ₦20,000 each. Meanwhile, offences such as assaulting a marshal on duty, attempting to corrupt a marshal, driver’s licence violations, overloading and passengers’ manifest violations attract fines of ₦10,000 respectively.
Lower-tier offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, excessive smoke emission, failure to cover unstable materials, latching and twist-lock violations, operating a mechanically deficient vehicle, road marking violations, route violations and speed limit violations, each attract a fine of ₦5,000.
The FRSC has repeatedly emphasised that strict enforcement of these penalties is essential to improving road safety, reducing fatalities and ensuring that all road users adhere to established traffic laws.
Motorists are therefore advised to comply with traffic regulations at all times to avoid sanctions and contribute to safer roads nationwide.
