NiDCOM, NAPTIP Coordinate Safe Return of Trafficking Victims from Ghana

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has welcomed the safe return of 13 Nigerian nationals rescued from a human trafficking network in Ghana.
Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for its swift intervention and coordination that led to the successful repatriation of the victims.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa also expressed appreciation to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her continued support in providing transportation and other assistance during rescue and repatriation operations.
According to the statement, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) carried out profiling of the returnees as part of the standard reintegration process, while NiDCOM provided logistical support to ensure their safe return to their respective states.
The returnees were received in Lagos on behalf of the NiDCOM Chairman by the Head of Operations, Mr. Dele Ogunkanbi.
The rescued group comprises 11 adults and two infants aged four weeks and 16 months. Preliminary reports indicate that some of the women and their children are currently receiving medical treatment and psychological support after being diagnosed with serious health conditions.
The repatriation exercise was led by the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Adeoye, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and partner agencies.
Dabiri-Erewa reiterated her concerns over the dangers of irregular migration, urging young Nigerians to be cautious of unverified job offers and questionable travel arrangements abroad, which often expose them to exploitation and trafficking.
