BREAKING: Security Agencies To Place Travel Ban On Emefiele, Seize His Passport
A civic group, the Nigerian Watch Front Group (NWFG) has demanded that the Nigerian security agencies immediately place a travel ban on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and confiscate his International Passport.
The group made the demand on Monday in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Abubakar Gazali Umar, sequel to the recent revelation that barely two weeks to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Emefiele has secured a study leave to pursue his education abroad.
Naija News House during the weekend reported that Emefiele was granted study leave by President Buhari, an opportunity believed to have been granted to Emefiele to enable him flee the country before the inauguration of the “President-elect”, Bola Tinubu, on May 29, 2023, amid corruption and terrorism-financing allegations against him.
Reacting to the reported study leave granted to the CBN Governor by President Buhari, the Nigerian Watch Front Group stated that “It is consequent upon us to call on all security agencies to as a matter of urgency beam their search light on Mr Emefiele and place him on watch list.”
The group called on the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to ban Emefiele by confiscating his International Passport, saying that “It is worrisome that the Governor has the afontry to vacate Nigeria after plugging the country’s economic power house into his pocket and that of few elites.”
The group noted that the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) recently arraigned a Lagos businesswoman, Saadatu Yaro over money laundering with over N50billion linked to her account and are currently being investigated for prosecutions.
The group said that “Among the persons linked to the case is Aminu Yaro, a Northern business mogul and husband to Saadatu Yaro who happens to be a very close ally and watch front to the CBN Governor.
“The CBN Governor is alleged to attempt to vacate Nigeria so as not to give account of these atrocities and nepotic policy he developed to melt the economy with unnecessary economic recession.
“There is no doubt that the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President-elect, will review and conduct due investigation into reckless financial services and loans approved to few selected individuals on the yardstick of connection.”
