Troops Intensify Security in Jos, Arrest Suspects, Recover Weapons
Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis in a bid to curb rising tensions and prevent further escalation of violence in Plateau State.
As part of proactive measures, security personnel conducted a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise on Friday across key locations in Jos North and Jos South. The operation targeted identified flashpoints and major transit routes, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.
The exercise led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, as well as a pump-action gun and a cutlass.
In a related development, troops swiftly responded to a distress call over sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market area in Shendam. On arrival, the gunmen reportedly fled into nearby bushes following pressure from the advancing security forces.
A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of two residents who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The military command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong security presence across Plateau State, assuring residents that operations would continue with increased intensity until normalcy is fully restored.
Authorities also emphasized their resolve to neutralize all threats and ensure lasting peace in affected communities.
