UBA Bank In trouble Over N46,000 Strange Deductions

A Nigerian man, Hassan Saidu, has accused the United Bank for Africa of illegal monthly deductions from his bank account.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, he said the first deduction was made on August 29, 2022 while the second one occurred on September 27, 2022, after he unfroze and changed his ATM card and mobile app password.

According to him, N30,000 was illegally transferred to one Aisha Danraka (Opay: 9159598793) while N16,000 was sent to Olubiyi Odeinde without his authorisation.

He said, “Nigerians should help me as I register my complain and disappointment as well as dissatisfaction of the unprofessionalism of my bank, United bank for Africa (UBA) on a fraudulent and unauthorised transactions on two different occasions on my account 21*****721.

“On the 29th of August 2022, a transaction that was not authorised nor carried out by me was done using my bank app, to one Aisha Danraka.

On noticing that dubious transaction, I walked to their head office in Minna, Niger State to lodge a complaint, unfortunately the banker told me he could only trace the phone type that was used for the transaction which was Samsung A127f.

“Aside that, he cannot give me any other information, that made me unsatisfied and I left the bank. Later, via Facebook messenger app, I requested my account be frozen immediately which was done.

“On the fact that I use my UBA bank more often and gave out the account number for different transactions, I became more disturbed that I couldn’t hold it, then went to the other branch, besides Central Bank, to see if something could be done. At a point the banker checked and confirmed the account number the money was transferred to was Opay bank.

Therein I was asked to obtain the fraudulent and unauthorized transaction form to allow the bank investigate on the issue, which I did, collected the customer care manager’s number to get their feedback as promised before 7 working days.

“I called the manager several times but to no avail. Due to the nature of my transactions, I became unsettled and went to one of their branches in Abuja, Off Gana Street, Maitama to be precise and complained. After discovering their unattended attitude, I had to request my account be unfrozen. So I was asked to write a letter, authorising the bank to do so. I did immediately and blocked all the initial documents, ATM card and mobile app.

“On 26th September 2022, my account was unfrozen and I transferred money into the account, believing that everything is in order, only for me to receive another debit alert in the night. I’m requesting the help of the concern authorities, to assist me get back my hard earned money and caution the bank in question.”
