Trump Threatens Action Against Media Over ‘Leak’ Of Downed US Pilot In Iran
The United States President, Donald Trump, has issued a strong warning against a media organisation he accused of publishing sensitive information related to a U.S. search and rescue mission in Iran, vowing to uncover the source of the leak and take punitive action.
In a statement on Monday, Trump revealed that a “leaker” had disclosed critical details about a missing American pilot, potentially compromising national security operations.
“We’re looking very hard to find that leaker… [Iran] didn’t know there was somebody missing until this leaker gave the information,” he said.
He further threatened direct action against the media outlet responsible for publishing the information.
“We’re going to go to the media company that released it, and we’re going to say, ‘national security, give it up or go to jail,’” Trump stated, underscoring his administration’s hardline stance on classified leaks.
Trump insisted that the individual responsible for the leak played a key role in revealing that a second pilot was missing following an aerial incident in Iran.
He pledged that efforts were underway to identify and hold the person accountable.
NEW: President Trump reveals a ‘leaker’ released vital information about the search and rescue mission for the downed pilot in Iran:
“We’re looking very hard to find that leaker… [Iran] didn’t know there was somebody missing until this leaker gave the information.”
The development comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following reports of downed U.S. aircraft.
According to an earlier report, Iranian authorities claimed responsibility for destroying a second U.S. F-35 fighter jet.
The claim was made by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which stated that the advanced American warplane was shot down over central Iran. A report from its affiliated Fars News Agency said the jet was “completely destroyed and crashed,”.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency also suggested that survival was unlikely, noting that ejection may not have been possible due to the “violent explosion” that accompanied the crash.
Meanwhile, it was reported that one U.S. fighter jet pilot had been successfully rescued, while another was successfully rescued afterwards. U.S. officials indicated that the aircraft involved was a two-seater F-15, which reportedly went down under circumstances suggesting it was struck by Iranian forces.
The situation continues to evolve, with heightened concerns over security breaches, military escalation, and the potential fallout from the alleged leak.
The war in Iran continues to be far from over as calls continue to mount for revert to diplomacy to end the conflict.
