POS Fraudster Escapes Mob Action in Abuja
A 30-year-old man who specializes in robbing Point of Sale (POS) operators narrowly escaped death on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to a report by Naija News House, the suspect, who gave his name as Victor, had approached a POS operator in Nyanya market, Abuja, for a transaction. He requested to withdraw N17,000 and, after being given the POS terminal to input his PIN, cancelled the transaction and pocketed the receipt.
The POS operator, while accounting for the money to give to him, checked the paper and discovered that Victor had cut and pocketed it. She quickly raised an alarm, and the suspect was apprehended by the crowd. Despite pleading for pardon, Victor received heavy beatings from the mob before being rescued by the POS operator’s father, who took him to the Nyanya market police station.
Upon checking his account balance, it was discovered that he only had N800 in his account.
The POS operator, who had previously been a victim of the suspect’s scam, had N350,000 stolen from her along with her phone. “Last week, they stole my N350,000 with my phone.
These people had been dealing with me, and I was praying to catch them one day,” the POS operator told Naija News House.
By the time the report was being filed, the police had promised our reporters to take the suspect to another station in Nyanya for further interrogation.
