FG Reaffirms Commitment To Strengthens Nigeria–Hungary Ties, Enhances Digital Visa System

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Hungary while advancing Nigeria’s digital visa infrastructure.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Hungarian Ambassador, Lorand Endreffy to the Ministry of Interior in Abuja, Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted his recent visit to Budapest as a testament to the importance of the partnership. He assured that Nigeria will promptly review the updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) from Hungary and commence necessary internal processes.

Addressing concerns about recent visa payment delays, the Minister explained that the Ministry is upgrading its online payment system for full digitization. He emphasized that payments are processed directly by the government through two secure gateways, with a potential third being added to enhance reliability. He thanked the Ambassador for feedback that will help resolve minor technical issues and improve overall system efficiency.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also highlighted the new Electronic Entry Visa (EEV) system, which allows applicants to apply and receive visas online without visiting embassies. He noted the real-time dashboard tracks applications globally, improving transparency and accountability.

The Hungarian Ambassador, Lorand Endreffy, presented an updated MoU covering border management, police training, and security technology, describing the partnership as mutually beneficial. He praised Nigeria’s digital visa reforms, and the professionalism of immigration personnel in Abuja and Budapest. He also applauded the Ministry’s real-time visa monitoring system, describing it as “a wonderful improvement” in Nigeria’s global visa administration.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo concluded, “Our goal is simple: to make Nigeria more open, efficient, and globally competitive. We will continue to improve our visa systems to facilitate travel, trade, and migration.”
