Enough Is Enough; This Is Not PDP, APC Sends Strong Warning To Wike

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to immediately resign his appointment, accusing him of abusing his ministerial office to meddle in the internal affairs of the ruling party and worsen political tensions in Rivers State. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026, the APC scribe said his attention was drawn to what he described as an unwarranted tirade by the minister against his person and office, following his earlier remarks that members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) must accord due respect to sitting governors as leaders of the party in their respective states. He expressed surprise that what he termed an innocuous and principled position could provoke what he described as crude and unbecoming reactions from a serving member of the Federal Executive Council, adding that such conduct fell below the standards expected of a minister in an APC-led government. Clarifying his stance, the National Secretary stressed that Wike is not a registered member of the APC and therefore lacks the locus to interfere in the party’s internal affairs. He said party records clearly show that the former Rivers State governor does not belong to the APC, making his persistent interventions inappropriate and unacceptable. According to him, his responsibility as National Secretary is national in scope and includes safeguarding the interests of the party, its members and structures across the country. He insisted that his comments on developments within the APC in Rivers State were well within his constitutional duties and could not be construed as interference in state affairs or restricted to Osun State, his home base. The APC scribe also reacted sharply to Wike’s reference to an alleged ₦600 billion “largesse” in Rivers State, which the minister claimed APC leaders were scrambling for. He dismissed the allegation as cheap blackmail, insisting that both his personal life and public service record are anchored on integrity and transparency. He challenged the minister to substantiate the claim or be prepared to face legal action. Addressing what he described as veiled threats from the minister, the APC National Secretary said Wike was not God and warned that he might be overestimating his political influence. He declared that intimidation would not deter him, recalling his role as one of the young Nigerians who confronted military dictatorship during the struggle for democracy, long before Wike rose to national prominence. He further rejected suggestions that Wike’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu automatically confers APC membership on him, noting that millions of Nigerians who are not members of the ruling party also support the President. According to him, such alignment does not grant Wike the right to import what he described as the “PDP spirit” into the APC or destabilise the party’s structure in Rivers State. The National Secretary warned that it was unacceptable for a member of the Federal Executive Council to leverage a federal appointment to sow confusion within any organ of the ruling party. He insisted that if Wike wished to continue engaging in partisan battles within the APC, the honourable path was for him to resign his ministerial position and fully face his political interests in Rivers State.
