JUST IN: Nigerian Police Speaks On Arresting Any Man For Wearing Earrings, Deadlocks Or Women Going Out With Bum Shorts Or Without Bra
The Nigeria Police Force has assured that no policeman or vigilante has the right to arrest anybody over dreadlocks, wearing of earrings by men, wearing of bum shorts or mini-skirts by ladies or going out without brassieres.
The Delta State Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who made this known in a video he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday said that none of the dress codes was an offence, hence, no security personnel has the right or directives to arrest or harass anyone.
The police spokesperson said, “I have been getting complaints that members of the public, particularly residents in Delta State, are being harassed sometimes by vigilantes, anti-cult, hunters association and some recalcitrant police officers.
“I want to make it very clear that on the issue of dress code, improper dressing, boys carrying dreadlocks, wearing earrings, girls wearing bum shorts or mini-skirts or girls going out without bra; it is not an offence.
“That circular was debunked by the state government, hence, no policeman or vigilante or anti-cult or anybody can harass you for that. If they insist that it is an offence, you also should insist that the matter should be taken to a police station, and when you get to a police station, reach out to me.
“However, I really want you to know that it is not an offence.”
Also speaking on the issue of tinted vehicle glasses, Edafe said that the Commissioner of Police in the state has directed officers to allow those who have factory-fitted tinted vehicles to use them pending when the police lifts suspension on tinted permit.
“However, for those having artificial tinted, if you have an already existing tinted permit before it was suspended, you will be allowed to use your tinted vehicle but if you don’t have, please, peel it off.
“No policeman has been directed to arrest people over tinted, however, if you have an artificially tinted vehicle, you are advised to peel it off to avoid any form of embarrassment.
“If they hold you, tell them that the directive is that you should peel it off, then you can peel it off right there but if you don’t, the police will have no choice but to impound your vehicle.”
