Woman Tortures Minor Maid With Hot Knife Over N1,700
A 39-year-old businesswoman, Adebisi Oladoke, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly torturing her nine-year-old housemaid, Rukiba, with a hot knife.
The incident reportedly occurred after the girl admitted to stealing N1,700 and returned the money.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded at 2, Adetoye Street, Surulere, Lagos.
Oladoke allegedly accused the girl of being a habitual thief. She was said to have heated a knife on a stove and used it to inflict injuries on the child’s body, including sensitive areas, to force further confessions.
The child’s cries for help alerted neighbours, who promptly contacted the Divisional Police Officer of Ebute-Ero Division, CSP Rotimi Agunloye. Officers arrived at the scene, rescued the victim, and arrested the suspect.
Oladoke was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, on one count of causing bodily harm. Prosecuting counsel Ishola Samuel stated that the accused unlawfully took matters into her own hands, inflicting grievous harm on the minor despite the money being returned.
The charge reads: “That you, Adebisi Oladoke, did indecently deal with one Rukiba by using a hot knife to inflict injuries on her body, causing bodily harm.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate A.A. Paul granted her bail at N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. She was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.
The case was adjourned to 27 January 2025 for further mention.
