FG Targets Completion of N43bn Gombe–Yola Road Section

The Federal Ministry of Works has continued its nationwide media tour in Adamawa State, showcasing completed intervention projects and inspecting ongoing road constructions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Among the projects highlighted is the Cham–Numan section of the Gombe–Yola Road, one of the 2,064 projects inherited from previous administrations. The road serves as the only major link connecting Gombe State to Adamawa, making it a critical economic corridor.
Briefing journalists, the Federal Controller of Works in Adamawa State, Engr. Dimas Tuwai, described the road as a strategic route that had suffered years of neglect. He explained that variations in scope and design required the replacement of stone base with boulders’ fill, leading to an initial cost increase from ₦9 billion, when awarded in May 2017, to ₦16 billion. Inflation and other contractual adjustments later pushed the total project cost to ₦43 billion.
According to him, the project has reached 44 per cent completion, with approximately 13 kilometres left to be completed. He expressed optimism that the work would be delivered within the year, commending the contractor for sustained efforts despite challenges.
Representing the contractor, Messrs CGC (Nigeria) Limited, the company’s Public Relations Officer, Simeon Omale, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to meeting delivery timelines.
“CGC is committed to completing this project, and we assure you we will meet the stipulated deadline,” he stated, projecting full completion by 2027.
The media team also visited the Jabbi–Lamba Road project, part of the Renewed Hope road interventions in the state. The contractor, M/S Decency Associates Ltd, described the project as vital to communities along the corridor, noting that work has progressed to about 40 per cent. Awarded on December 30, 2024, the project is expected to be completed within the next three to four months.
Professional bodies in the state have expressed satisfaction with the quality of work. The Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Adamawa State Branch, Prof. Engr. Bashiru Aliyu, FNSE, said he was impressed with the standard and pace of execution, particularly as a native of the area.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Adamawa State, Engr. Wasinda Jonathan, described the intervention as commendable, affirming that the regulatory body is satisfied with the quality of delivery.
As part of the 260 completed Emergency/Special Intervention Projects nationwide, the recently rehabilitated Doctors’ Quarters Road in Yola, within Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone, was formally commissioned. Executed by Clinton Enterprise Ltd, the road has significantly improved living conditions in the area by reducing flooding and enhancing access.
Performing the commissioning on behalf of the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, the Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Adamawa State, Comrade Ibrahim Kado, noted that the project has eased the movement of people and goods while increasing property values in the neighbourhood.
The NSE Chairman also observed that the rehabilitated roads, previously prone to flooding, have greatly improved accessibility and mobility within residential quarters.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Malam Jubril Mohammed Iliasu expressed gratitude for the intervention.
“We are no longer afraid of the rainy season,” he said, highlighting the relief brought by the project.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life for Nigerians.
