Jimoh Lobbies To Head Zone 2 Command

Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, is set to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the process.

It was gathered that Jimoh is expected to be promoted and decorated on the same day. Sources also indicated that he is lobbying to remain in Lagos to head the Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos Island.

Jimoh assumed office in February 2025 as the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The Zone 2 Police Command oversees policing operations, law enforcement and crime prevention across Lagos State and Ogun State.

It was also learnt that Tijani Fatai, a Lagos-born police officer, has been pencilled down as a possible replacement for Jimoh as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

Sources said Fatai, who currently serves as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, reportedly enjoys the support of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State.

“Moshood Jimoh is set to be promoted on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he is lobbying to head Zone 2 in Lagos,” a top police source said. “Mr Tijani Fatai has been penciled down for Lagos, supported by Lagos governor.”

“They will be promoted and decorated on the same day,” the source added.

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced that a promotion examination and interactive session for senior officers seeking elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) would take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

According to a police wireless communication circulated by NIGPOL FORSEC Abuja to commands and departments nationwide, the session is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Chairman’s Conference Room on the sixth floor of the commission’s headquarters.

Officers invited for the exercise are required to report by 7:00 a.m. for briefing and conveyance to the venue.

The list of officers instructed to attend includes Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru (FDC), Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood, Jimoh Simeon, Udofia Akpanudom (FDC), and Haruna Oufemi.

Miller Gajere Dantawaye is the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Command, having assumed office in October 2025.

The communication also outlined the dress code and professional standards for the interview.

Officers are expected to wear conventional attire, including black jackets and berets, and carry swagger canes. They are also required to demonstrate professional competence during the examination, which will cover law, local acts and professional studies.

For operational support, the force directed that 12 neatly turned-out, armed officers from the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) be deployed for escort duties.

The transport department was also directed to provide serviceable vehicles, including two Hilux vans, for the conveyance of the senior officers to and from the interview venue. The vehicles are to be on standby at the Force Headquarters parade ground by 6:00 a.m.

The directive emphasised that all commands should treat the exercise as “very important” to ensure the smooth conduct of the promotion interviews.

It was earlier reported that the Police Service Commission had promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) to fill vacancies created by the recent retirement of several senior officers in the force.

The development followed the exit of officers who served under the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement released on Friday, PSC spokesperson Torty Njoku Kalu said the promotions were based on merit, seniority, service records and performance in both written and oral examinations conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, the newly promoted officers include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, formerly AIG in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi; Zango Ibrahim Baba, formerly AIG in the Department of Logistics and Supply; Isyaku Mohammed, formerly AIG, Armament at Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly AIG, FCID Annex, Lagos.

Others elevated are Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, formerly AIG, Police Accounts and Budget at Force Headquarters; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, formerly AIG in charge of Zone 15, Maiduguri; and Umar Shehu Nadada, formerly AIG in charge of Zone 14, Katsina.

The commission said the promotions were aimed at strengthening the leadership structure of the police force.

It was reported on Friday that seven AIGs invited by the PSC for promotion interviews had successfully passed the screening and are scheduled to be decorated as Deputy Inspectors-General of Police by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Monday.

“New AIGs invited for promotion exams have passed,” a police source told SaharaReporters last week.

On Thursday evening, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) had been invited for promotion interviews for elevation to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs).

The development came as several DIGs were expected to be compulsorily retired following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
