Stepfather Accused of Raping 12-Year-Old Girl, Threatening to Kill Her and Mother

A stepfather has been arrested in Rumuekini community, Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State, following allegations that he repeatedly sexually assaulted his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

The suspect was accused of raping the minor on three different occasions whenever her mother was away from home.
According to the victim’s account, the man allegedly began by touching her inappropriately before sexually assaulting her. She reportedly remained silent because he threatened to kill both her and her mother if she told anyone about the abuse.
The suspect was eventually apprehended by community members after an extended effort involving family members and residents.
A video shared on social media captured the moment the alleged perpetrator was arrested. He was seen violently resisting as community members attempted to take him into custody.
At the police station, a community member said the arrest followed a difficult encounter with the suspect, adding that family and community members had been involved in the effort since 8:00 a.m.
However, the Rivers State Police Command had yet to officially comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Calls placed to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, were unanswered, while a WhatsApp message sent to her seeking confirmation and an official reaction had not received a response.
The case highlights the growing concern over sexual violence against children and the need to strengthen efforts to protect minors from abuse, including within their own homes.
