Ensure 2025 Budget Allocations Effectively Improve Lives Of Nigerians; Rep. Uchenna Urges Tinubu
A Federal Lawmaker representing Idemili North/South in the 10th House of Representatives Rep. Uchenna Okonkwo has calls on President Tinubu to prioritize Nigerians’ Well-being in 2025 Budget Allocation.
The lawmaker’s plea comes as the House of Representatives urges the President to submit the 2025 budget proposal without further delay, citing concerns over the executive arm’s slow pace in presenting the budget estimate with the current budget cycle set to end on December 31, 2024.
Rep. Uchenna’s appeal emphasizes the need for effective allocation of resources to positively impact the lives of Nigerian citizens.
Speaking to newsmen after President Bola Tinubu’s budget presentation, Okonkwo highlighted both the positive aspects and challenges within the proposal.
Rep Okonkwo acknowledged the budget’s merit but underscored the need for substantial reforms to make a real impact on the economy.
“We must ensure that every line of this budget is scrutinized and implemented effectively,” Okonkwo stated.
“Our role as legislators is to guarantee that the funds allocated for critical sectors, including education, health, infrastructure, and security, directly benefit the people.
“The proposed budget of 47.99 trillion naira, while an improvement over previous years, was noted to be relatively small when compared to the budgets of other nations with larger populations.
“Infrastructure and education are key to lifting the nation out of poverty. We need to focus on these sectors, especially education, which was allocated 3.5 trillion naira.
“The true test is whether the budget addresses the needs of the poorest Nigerians,” he added.
