Controversial Minister of Niger Delta has paid a whooping N100million bribe to officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to stop probe of Efiong Okon Akwa, the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC who is being investigated for failing to declare his assets since 2013.
Akwa was Special Assistant on Finance to Mr Bassey Dan-Abia, who was Managing Director of the NDDC between 2013 and 2015.
Mr Dan-Abia was a former Commissioner in Akpabio’s cabinet in Akwa Ibom State, while Akpabio was Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Then Governor Akpabio nominated Dan-Abia as MD of the NDDC and sent Effiong Akwa to work with him as his Special Assistant on Finance during this period.
Akwa, is alleged not to have declared his assets since his first appointment and after he was named a Sole Administrator of NDDC.
Sources told Pointblanknews.com that once Akwa received a letter from the CCB inviting him for investigation, he quickly reached out to his godfather, Akpabio, who immediately swung into action to save him.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that a worried Akpabio reached out to a Director in CCB who offered to help only if a nonnegotiable N100million is paid as bribe.
Akpabio, allegedly agreed and made the funds available, according to an insider privy to the deal who would not want to be named.
As soon as the funds were received by the CCB officials, they started the process of helping the embattled NNDC Sole Administrator doctor his assets declaration form.
As the time of filing this report, Akwa and officials of the CCB are at the Hilton Hotel, room 909, Abuja, helping Akwa fill a backdated assets declaration form after the bribe money was said to have been delivered to the CCB officials.
One Mr. Emma Inyang Eto led the CCB officials to the Hilton Hotel Room where the illegal act is being carried out.
Sources told pointblanknews.com that the Attorney General and minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, refused to be part of the deal to save Akwa after it emerged he never declared his assets after his curious and illegal appointment as Sole Administrator of the NDDC.
