70-Year-Old Begger, 500 Others Arrested By Kano Govt
Following the recent Anti Street Beggers Law signed by Kano state government, No fewer than 500 beggars including 70-year-old woman has been arrested by the State Government charged with violating the law that bans street begging in the state.
The state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad-Umar, disclosed while repatriating the beggars to their states in Kano yesterday.
Muhammad-Umar in charge of Women Affairs stressed that the beggars were arrested in Kano metropolis with 70 per cent being women and children, and 30 per cent men.
“Those arrested included women, children, men and Almajiris. The children don’t go to school and have no good food to eat,” she said
