APC Crisis Worsens As Exco Asks Chairman To Resign Or Else
The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Charles Ako, has called on the Chairman, Ugo Agballa, to resign for allegedly plunging the party into crisis.
Ako, responding to a “purported suspension and expulsion” of some founding members of the party by Agballa, said the chairman’s intention was to give a semblance of crisis in the party, to sweep away the allegation of corruption levelled against him.
He alleged: “I’m calling on Agballa to resign because of corruption, high-handedness and arbitrary use of power.”
Ako, however, said the suspension and expulsion of the party’s major stakeholders in the state contravened Section 3 of the APC constitution, because it did not follow due process and therefore would never stand.
“It is dictatorial and doesn’t have an acceptance. Suspension and or expulsion can only be initiated at the ward level and can only be brought to the state for ratification and implementation.
“We are not in a banana republic where the state chairman will wake up and suspend members.
“It is necessary to know that the issue of anti-party activities has grade by grade. It can only be proved when you work against the party,” he said.
On the woeful outing of APC in the March 18 governorship election, Ako alleged that Agballa fielded a candidate that could not win election for the party.
“Agballa even boasted that he would double the votes garnered during the 2019 election, but failed woefully.
“This is the first time a chairman is working against his party in an election. Agballa never campaigned for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the presidential election. He resorted to suspension and expulsion of stakeholders owing to the fact that he could no longer account for the money spent during the electioneering process. Rather than account for it, he resorted to cheap blackmail,” Ako said.
