Drama As Newly Elected Reps Speaker, Tajudeen’s Wives Jostle For Recognition
There was a dramatic moment on Tuesday when the wives of the newly elected speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas were fighting for recognition during the swearing-in ceremony.
The incident happened after Abbas had been elected speaker by a landslide and was about to take a group picture during the swearing.
The wives were seen struggling to appear alongside other notable personnel during the swearing-in moment, TheCable reports.
SaharaReporters reported on Tuesday that Abass defeated contenders, Idris Wase and Sani Jaji to win the election.
Abbas polled 353 votes, while Wase and Jaji got three votes each. When Abbas was carried onto the platform to swear his promise of loyalty, everything appeared to be going swimmingly.
The oaths were delivered by Kamoru Ogunlana, deputy clerk of the house, for the new speaker to react to.
On his left, Abbas was accompanied by his wife and Alhassan Doguwa, the lawmaker of the Doguwa/Tudun Wada federal seat.
The normal occasion was disrupted, however, by another of Abbas’ wives, who barged onto the platform and threw the other wife away.
The incident appeared to have taken Abbas by surprise, as he paused his oath-taking to exchange furious words with the wife who barged onto the platform.
Despite the confrontations, none of the women backed down as the procedures continued on the dais with both of them on it.
Abbas is a Zazzau emirate prince with the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau.
Before entering politics in 2010, he worked as a primary school teacher, polytechnic and university lecturer.
He has a master’s degree in business administration as well as a PhD.
