It was on Thursday reported that the police special constabularies were caught in a viral video demanding money from a Dutch woman rider at Ojongbodu area along Iseyin/Ogbomosho Road in Oyo, Oyo State.
The Dutch woman who told the police that she was heading to the Nigerian capital city, Abuja was surprised when the personnel were unwilling to let her go unless she gave them money.
The video had generated controversy on X (formerly Twitter) as many Nigerians condemned the police for such an ignominious act by its operatives.
Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Police Command on Thursday on X said that the viral video portraying the regrettable misconduct of the police officers had been accessed and that all those involved had been arrested for immediate disciplinary actions.
Giving an update on the matter on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday said confirmed that the Special Police Constabularies were arrested by the police authority for their “unprofessional, unacceptable, and punishable acts.”
Adejobi further stated that “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, has instituted a disciplinary procedure on the matter immediately.
“The police authority has condemned the act and ordered that the men and their supervising Divisional Police Officer be sanctioned accordingly.
“Such an act is unpolice and would never be tolerated in any manner. The Force would however intensify efforts in commencing the reorientation programme initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for officers and men of the Force to address issues of this nature and reposition the Nigeria Police Force.”
