Kano Government Reinstate Deposed Emir Sanusi, Dissolve New Emirates
A group called Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano has asked the Kano State House of Assembly to reinstate the deposed Kano emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, and dissolve the new emirates in the state.
The state government led by the then Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had on March 3, 2020, dethroned Sanusi for showing “insubordination’’ to the authorities in the state.
Sanusi’s supporters believe he was sacked for opposing Ganduje’s re-election bid.
Ganduje later split Kano emirate into five and appointed four more emirs for Gaya, Karaye, Bichi and Rano emirates.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the assembly and signed by the group’s chairman, Najib Abdulkadir Salati, they said the removal of Sanusi from the throne has caused division, unrest and unnecessary tension among the people.
“We would like to request a review and potential dissolution of the additional emirates.
“We acknowledge the rightful authority of the Kano State House of Assembly in the issue of emirate management. However, we humbly request your esteemed Assembly to revisit and reconsider the decision to remove HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from the throne.
“We believe that his reinstatement will foster unity, peace, and stability within Kano State and its neighbouring communities,” the group said.
When contacted, the chief press secretary, Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaludeen Sani Shawai, said he had not seen the letter personally, promising to get back.
