BREAKING: Trouble Looms As Nigerian Police Recall All Personnel On Leave, Ban Alcohol Consumption, Others During Protests
The Nigeria Police Force has issued stringent orders in preparation for the #EndBadGovernance protests.
According to a police wireless message, issued in July 2024, all officers and personnel on leave are required to resume duty immediately, with all forms of leave suspended.
The memo from the Police Department of Operations in Abuja directed that all personnel must wear camouflage, while PMF units are instructed to wear black with denim trousers. The memo also directed those deployed for protest operations must be both trained and trustworthy.
Alcohol consumption is strictly forbidden, and personnel are to take full responsibility for their actions, it said.
It said, “Excess arms and ammunition to be moved to state headquarters armoury. All personnel are confined to barracks. All personnel to be vigilant.”
It stressed that lapses will not be tolerated and that any lapses will come with strict consequences, with compliance being mandatory.
The order is effective immediately, the memo says.
