Fear Grips Biden What Would Happen If Trump Loses US Election
President Joe Biden has cast doubt on the possibility of a smooth transition of power if former President Donald Trump is defeated in the upcoming election.
Biden pointed to Trump’s previous claims that he would only accept defeat if the election was ‘stolen’ from him, implying that Trump may refuse to concede if he loses.
In an interview with CBS News, Biden initially misspoke, saying, “If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all,” before quickly correcting himself: “I mean, if Trump loses, I’m not confident at all. He means what he says.
“We don’t take him seriously, but he means it — all the talk about if we lose, there’ll be a bloodbath, it will have to be a stolen election.”
This was Biden’s first interview since ending his campaign, and it is expected to air in full on Sunday morning.
Earlier this year, former President Donald Trump made alarming comments, warning of a ‘bloodbath’ for the US auto industry and the nation if he loses the 2024 election.
President Joe Biden’s campaign swiftly denounced these remarks, accusing Trump of inciting political violence.
Biden has consistently expressed concerns that Trump will refuse to concede if defeated, making the protection of democracy a central focus of his campaign.
Last month, from the Oval Office, Biden emphasised the stark contrast between Trump’s refusal to accept election results and his own decision to step aside as the Democratic nominee, highlighting the importance of defending democracy.
“Look, I’m not the guy who said I want to be a dictator on day one. I’m not the guy who refused to accept the outcome of the election,” Biden said. “You can’t only love your country when you win.”
Since suspending his campaign, Biden has allowed Vice President Kamala Harris, his endorsed successor, to take centre stage.
On Wednesday, Biden sounded the alarm that former President Donald Trump is setting the stage to dispute the November election results, much like in 2020, by strategically placing loyalists in local election roles.
