Oshiomhole In Trouble For Mocking Gov Obaseki, Wife
Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has sparked controversy following his alleged remarks about Betsy, the wife of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, stating that she “has no child.”
The comment, which has drawn widespread criticism, was made in response to an event during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign in Esan South-East LGA at Ubiaja Township Stadium.
During the campaign, Betsy Obaseki introduced Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, the wife of PDP governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo, to the assembled crowd. In her remarks, Betsy highlighted that Ighodalo was the only candidate in the upcoming September 21 election with a spouse, urging women to support him as it would be a vote for women’s empowerment.
“Let’s campaign and vote for the best candidate in this forthcoming election. I want to introduce his wife. Incidentally, out of all the candidates contesting this election, only one has a wife,” Betsy stated, referring to Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy.
Oshiomhole, in an interview with journalists, expressed his shock at Betsy’s comments, particularly her assertion that Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, did not have a wife. He then made a pointed remark about Betsy and her husband, Governor Obaseki, claiming that the couple is childless and has not considered adoption.
“I was shocked yesterday to see Mrs. Obaseki, the first lady, saying our candidate has no wife. I’m sorry she had to say that because here is a woman who has no child. Between her and Obaseki, they are childless. They are not even ready to adopt,” Oshiomhole said.
