Drama As Nigerian Governor Appoints Over 300 Aides Without Portfolios
Despite Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday, announced the appointments of 316 senior special assistants and special assistants without any assigned portfolio to his cabinet.
The announcement of the appointments was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.
According to the statement, Governor Aiyedatiwa approved the appointments in continuation of his efforts to enhance governance and service delivery to the people of the state.
“The new appointments are spread across the 18 Local Government Areas, 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and 203 Wards in the State,” the statement read.
This is coming a few months to the end of the governor’s first term in office.
Aiyedatiwa is expected to hand over governance in February 2025 if he loses the November 16th, 2024 guber election.
The latest appointments by the government is coming amidst the ongoing conversations around the high cost of governance in the country.
To the average Nigerian, the size of government at the federal and state level is over-bloated and too much of a burden for the economy to carry.
A review of the list showed that some of the newly appointed aides live abroad.
