A’Ibom: Eventus Edem Is Not Our Leader; Says PDP, Commiserates With Gov Eno, Obot’ Family
The ward Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in southern uruan ward 1, Akwa Ibom state has debunked and condemned reports that Dr. Eventus Edem of Ikot Akan Emerged as ward leader.
The points made available to Journalists on Saturday stated as follows.
SOUTHERN URUAN WARD 1 COMMISERATES WITH THE GOVERNOR, PAYS CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF THEIR LATE WARD LEADER
Friday 18th October, 2024.
1. The elders forum of Southern Uruan Ward 1 met and formally commiserated with His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on the sudden and very painful passing of his dear wife and our First Lady, Pastor Mrs Patience Eno. The forum prayed God to grant her gentle soul a perfect repose and strengthen/comfort our Governor, the first family, and the entire State.
2. The forum also paid a condolence visit to the Family of Sir Henry Okokon Obot (KSM), at Nung Ikono Obio, Southern Uruan Ward 1, to console them over the sudden death of the Ward Leader, Etubom Henry Okokon Obot, KSM, who also doubled as the Dean of Ward Leaders in Uruan LGA and the first Legal Adviser of the PDP in Uruan
3. The leader of the delegation, Pst. Ime Okon, MD of Akwa Savings & Loans Limited, who represented the Principal of the Ward, Sir Okon Okon, extolled the good qualities of the late Leader, who was a very committed party leader, community leader, church pillar and a virtuous father during his time on earth.
4. The Elders Forum used the opportunity to thank the entire Ward for supporting the party (PDP) during the just concluded Local Government elections, where the Party recorded overwhelming victory in the polls.
5. The Forum congratulates His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, on the successful completion of his doctoral program in political science at the prestigious University of Uyo and reaffirm their support for his adminstration and the ARISE Agenda.
6. The Elders also congratulates the Ward’s Councillor, Hon. Blessing Duncan for a successful inauguration into the Uruan Local Government Legislative Council.
7. The Forum, after various deliberations, condemned in its entirety the forgery of the signature of the Ward Leader by some unscrupulous elements during the last Local Government Councillorship Primaries.
8. In the same vein, the Forum was shocked and embarrassed by the recalcitrant actions of Hon. Eventus Edem and Hon. Sebastian Nkanga on the purported adoption of Eventus Edem as the Ward Leader of Southern Uruan Ward 1 at a time the entire Ward is mourning our revered Leader, Sir Henry Okokon Obot (KSM) who passed on a few days ago and the family was yet to officially announce the transition of their patriarch.
9. The Elders Forum also condemned the actions of the Ward Chairman, Mr Joseph Edet Etim, who, in the first place, is not an Elder of the Ward, and he has no power whatsoever to appoint a Ward Leader.
10. The power to appoint a Ward Leader is vested with the Forum of Elders of the affected Ward. As such, Mr Joseph Edet Etim has been warned to refrain from being used by self-seeking politicians to score a cheap political point, as the forum knows that he was pushed and misguided by some desperate, position-hungry and self-seeking politicians to make that reckless move in order to destabilize the long-standing harmony and peace that exist in Southern Uruan Ward 1.
11. Consequent upon this, the Forum has come out with its position and hereby state as follows:
i. That the actions of Eventus Edem and Sabestian Nkanga and the ward exco chairman are very shameful and unacceptable, and as such, they do not represent the collective will of the law abiding, wise, and process- minded elders of the Ward.
ii. The purported adoption of Eventus Edem by the ward Chairman and Sebastian Nkanga in a private event of Eventus Edem and Joseph Etim amidst strangers to the ward has been unanimously declared null and void and of no effect whatsoever, and the Ward Elders Forum condems the action and disassociate itself entirely from such unlawful and unruly activity.
iii The Forum also calls on the highly respected political structures in Uruan LGA and the general public to discountenance the so call outcome of the charade as anyone that has anything to do with Eventus Edem in his fraudulent capacity as “ward leader” of Uruan South 1 does so at his/her peril as the Ward has condemned his nefarious activities and Eventus Edem is also warned not to parade himself as the Ward Leader of Southern Uruan Ward 1. Rather, he should, alongside his unscrupulous partners, repent in their interest and the interest of the Ward.
iv. The Ward admonishes Eventus Edem to desist from actions that are capable of disuniting the ward and creating disharmony in the ward and rather act as an elder by embarking on activities and behaviors that will build our beloved and well respected Ward as a party member and a public servant.
v. The Ward apologizes to the family of our late Leader for the embarrassment caused them by the obnoxious, manipulative, and unscrupulous behaviors of Eventus Edem and his cotravellers and cohorts.
vi. Finally, the Elders Forum of the Ward, after our Late Leader is laid to rest and we pay him our last respect, will in our matured way of doing things, meet to decide who among them can lead the Ward well.
