Many Feared Killed Over Cult Clash
At least seven people were killed on Sunday in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State in what the police described as a cult-related clash.
In a video posted on X by a verified account user, Naija Confra @naijaconfra, a handle that disseminates cult-related information across Nigeria, a witness who spoke Igbo in a video, confirmed that the incident happened on Sunday but could not say whether it was a cult clash or not.
However, he could be heard confirming that the victims were killed by some hoodlums who attacked them.
While he did not mention the exact number of people killed in the attack, from the video, SaharaReporters was able to count at least seven lying on the ground, including one of victims identified as Ochiman.
Another victim was identified as Ejike.
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, called on witnesses to volunteer information to facilitate police action.
The police spokesperson said the state police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area for necessary action.
Ikenga said, “The Command is aware of a suspected cult-related clash today 20/10/2024 in Nibo, Awka South LG and the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam have ordered immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area for necessary action.
“Preliminary reports of the incidents are still sketchy as the Command calls on the witnesses of this incident to volunteer information that will help to identify the perpetrators for possible arrest.
