BREAKING: Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill: Senate Removes Chief Whip
The Senate has reshuffled the members of the 10-man committee tasked with meeting the Presidency to discuss grey areas of the Tax Reform Bills.
Initially established on Wednesday, the committee included Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno (APC, Borno North), Adamu Ailero (PDP, Kebbi Central), Orji Kalu (APC, Abia North), Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West), Titus Zam (APC, Benue South), Abdullahi Yahaya (PDP, Kebbi North), Adeola Olamilekan (APC, Ogun West), Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East), and Abbah Moro (PDP, Benue), who serves as the committee’s chairman.
However, on Thursday, Senate Chief Whip Senator Monguno was removed from the committee.
This decision came after the Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central, replaced him with Senator Shehu Kaka, APC, Borno Central.
Despite this change, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, PDP, Benue South, remains the leader of the committee, which continues to include members such as Adamu Ailero, PDP, Kebbi Central, Orji Kalu, APC, Abia North, Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West), Titus Zam (APC, Benue South), Abdullahi Yahaya (PDP, Kebbi North), Adeola Olamilekan (APC, Ogun West), Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), and Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East).
Naija News House recalls that following criticisms on the reform tax bills forwarded to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu for consideration, the Senate on Wednesday suspended further legislative actions on the bills.
However, the Senate made a sudden decision on Wednesday to hold a public hearing on the tax bills by establishing a 10-man committee.
This committee is tasked with meeting the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to address contentious issues in the tax bills.
Meanwhile, the Senate has directed its Committee on Finance to halt any further action on the tax bills that had passed the second reading last week.
