Teenage Boy Dies In Police Custody
An 18-year-old teenager, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, was confirmed dead in the custody of the police command in Niger.
The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the death, said Mr Abdulhakeem died while receiving treatment at a hospital on Thursday.
The teenager, who was accused of murdering retired permanent secretary Adamu Jagaba in Niger, was recently paraded by the police.
“On 19/12/2024 at about 5:00 p.m., the suspect, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, complained of severe stomach pains and cough. He was taken to the general hospital, Minna, for medical attention, but unfortunately, he later died while receiving treatment,” the police officer stated.
He added, “The corpse was deposited at the hospital morgue while awaiting postmortem result for further action.”
The teenager’s death came on the heels of the sudden death of a 35-year-old man, Jimoh Abdulquadri, in the custody of the police in Kwara after he was arrested and detained on Friday for failing to pay back a debt he owed his friend.
The command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who spoke on behalf of police commissioner Victor Olaiya, said the suspect was arrested and detained for obtaining N220,000 under false pretences.
