Information reaching us has it that the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has cleared the air on the possibility of joining the race for the 2023 presidential election, saying he wouldn’t join politics.
Many Nigerians see the former Emir as a possible replacement for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

However, in a report by The Nation, Sanusi revealed that he has no intention to contest for any political position in Nigeria.
The former Emir and new Caliph of the Tijaniyya sect in Nigeria, disclosed this while speaking in Kaduna, said he intends to continue to educate the Nigerian public to vote during the election.

Shortly after Sanusi was impeached as the Emir of Kano by Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on March 9, 2020, many Nigerians started promoting the conspiracy theory of how Sanusi will be the next President of Nigeria.
They argued that when former President Goodluck Johnathan sacked Sanusi as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria on June 8, 2014, he was appointed as Emir of Kano, adding that what comes as a humiliation to him always lead him to a bigger position.

It is on this premise many Nigerians believed the former Emir will join the 2023 presidential race and eventually become the next president of the country.
However, the latest statement of Sanusi has put to rest the possibility of him joining the 2023 presidential race or becoming the next president of Nigeria.

Sanusi was born to the royal family in the ancient city of Kano as a member of the Dabo Dynasty on July 31, 1961.
He was popularly known as Sanusi Lamido Sanusi before he took Muhammadu Sanusi II as his regnal name after he succeeded his grand-uncle, Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano on June 8, 2014.

Before he became the Emir of Kano, Sanusi had a successful career in the banking sector. He worked with the First Bank Plc, where he rose to the position of the Chief Executive Officer of the bank and became the first northern Nigerian to head the bank.
It was his sterling records in the banking sector that earned him the position of Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria during late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration on 3 June 2009.
