Adultery, Homos€xuality, Others Rock Kano Market
The Garun Malam Local Government Council in Kano State has announced the indefinite closure of the Kwanar Gafan Tomato Market following reports of unlawful activities, such as pr0stitution, adultery, hom0s3xuality, and other immoral behaviuor taking place in and around the market.
Aminu Salisu Kadawa, the chairman of the local government, confirmed the closure in an interview with Daily Trust, explaining that it was an essential step to restore order in the area.
He further noted that all market occupants must vacate the premises by January 1, 2025, with strict penalties for those who do not comply.
“This place has become a haven for criminals, armed robbers, pr0stitutes, and other wrongdoers,” Kadawa stated.
While the market must be vacated by the set deadline, Kadawa assured that a reopening date would be provided after a thorough review of its operations.
Imam Abdullahi Yusif Chiromawa, an Islamic scholar, voiced grave concern over the negative effects of the market’s alleged immoral activities, particularly on local children.
“The market has turned into a hub for adultery, h0mos3xuality, and pr0stitution, involving both youths and even married women,” Imam Chiromawa lamented.
S.A. Gusau, a representative of the state police commissioner, pledged that security forces would ensure the enforcement of the evacuation order.
“It is time for the security agencies to take control of the market, and we are committed to ensuring the evacuation order is upheld to maintain law and order,” Gusau stated.
