Kogi: Army, Vigilantes Neutralise Three Kidnap Suspects, Seize 4 AK-47 Rifles
The Nigerian Army has recorded another operational success against kidnapping activities in Kogi State, following the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers and the recovery of four AK-47 rifles and a large cache of ammunition.
The operation was carried out on November 4, 2026, by troops of the 12 Composite Brigade under the newly established 5 Division of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with the Kogi State Vigilance Service (KSVS).
The security operation took place in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area as part of intensified efforts to track down kidnappers and destroy their operational networks.
In a statement, the Army explained that the operation was a follow-up to earlier raids and exploitation activities conducted in Edimogbo Forest.

The troops and vigilante personnel subsequently advanced their search towards Obele Forest in pursuit of suspected criminals who had fled the earlier security operations.
On sighting the advancing security team, the suspects reportedly attempted to escape, leading to an encounter in which three of them were neutralised.
Items recovered during the subsequent search included four AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 336 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three bandoliers and an identity card.
The Army noted that the operation formed part of its sustained offensive against criminal groups through intelligence-led patrols, continuous operations and targeted searches of suspected criminal hideouts.
It maintained that the continued security presence in the area was aimed at restricting the activities of kidnappers, preventing them from establishing safe havens and reassuring residents of their safety.
The Commander of 12 Composite Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, praised the troops and members of the Kogi State Vigilance Service for their commitment, professionalism and resilience.
He charged them to maintain the tempo of operations and ensure that criminal elements are denied freedom of action within the Brigade’s operational area.
The Nigerian Army also assured residents of Kogi State and neighbouring communities of its determination to protect lives and property, calling on the public to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
