Gridlock As Nigerian Army Mounts Checkpoints In Abuja Over Protest
Roadblocks mounted by the Nigerian Army and other security personnel due to the anticipated #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests have left motorists stranded for hours.
It was gathered that motorists and other road users moving into the Abuja City Centre in the FCT now spend several minutes or hours in traffic due to military checkpoints mounted on the artery ways.
It was gathered that exiting Abuja and going to the central area of the federal capital territory has become a challenge.
Speaking, a respondent who was returning to Zuba axis of Abuja noted that unlike in times before now, it took him hours to get back home.
“The security checks mounted made it almost impossible for us to move fast like we used to” Adebayo Tunde noted.
People entering Abuja through the Zuba-Dei-Dei Expressway to come to work said the roadblocks were mounted between Sabon-Wuse and Dikko Junction in Niger State, as well as between Zuba and Dei-Dei in the FCT.
There have been military check points in areas like Bwari and Dutsen-Alhaji; at the Karu Junction and before the Mogadishu Cantonment on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, as well as around Giri Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Highway.
The #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest is scheduled to take place between August 1 and 10 nationwide.
Earlier NNH noted that 4,200 police personnel were deployed to the Federal Capital Territory for the protests.
Immigration service, mobile police and other security bodies have also redeployed their officials in preparation for the protests.
