The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s removal of Babatunde Irukera as CEO/Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
The Senate’s approval on Wednesday followed the consideration of the Executive Communication, which stated that the Senate would consider President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove Babatunde Irukera as Chief Executive/Vice-Chairman of the FCCPC in accordance with Sections 8(1)(b) and (2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2018, as presented by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central.
Recall that President Tinubu had contacted the Senate in January this year, seeking that it approve the disengagement of Mr Babatunde Irukera as the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and read at plenary.
The letter read, “In accordance with the provisions of Section 8(2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Act 2018. I hereby seek the kind confirmation of the Senate in respect of the disengagement from office of Babatunde Irukera as Executive Vice Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC with effect from January 8.
