Nigeria Records Highest-Ever Quarterly Diaspora Remittances of $1.57bn – NiDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced that Nigeria recorded its highest-ever quarterly diaspora remittance inflow of $1.57 billion in the second quarter of 2026.

NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, welcomed the development, describing it as evidence of the growing commitment of Nigerians in the diaspora to the nation’s economic development.
The record inflow, processed through International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs), represents a 33 per cent increase over the $1.18 billion received during the same period in 2025.
According to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Q2 2026 Statistical Bulletin, the latest figure is the highest quarterly inflow in the available records covering 2019 to 2026.
It also surpasses the previous record of approximately $1.47 billion achieved in Q3 2024.
The monthly breakdown indicates that Nigeria received $513.81 million in April 2026, while May and June recorded $472.13 million and $580.16 million, respectively.
Although April’s inflow was lower than the $597.44 million recorded in April 2025, May and June witnessed significant improvements compared with their corresponding figures of $288.17 million and $292.25 million in 2025.
June consequently emerged as the strongest month of the quarter.
The latest achievement further strengthens the positive trend recorded in the first quarter of 2026, when remittance inflows through formal channels stood at $1.29 billion, compared with $888.47 million in Q1 2025, representing a 45 per cent increase.
Reacting to the figures, Dabiri-Erewa said diaspora remittances remain an important contributor to Nigeria’s economic stability, providing financial support to households while strengthening the country’s foreign exchange position.
She noted that the growing inflows demonstrate the willingness of Nigerians abroad to remain actively involved in supporting their families and contributing to national development.
NiDCOM also highlighted the broader economic benefits of formal remittance channels, including improved foreign exchange availability, greater transparency in the currency market and enhanced economic resilience.
The Commission stressed the need to sustain confidence in regulated international money transfer platforms while providing an enabling environment for Nigerians abroad to channel more resources into productive investments in the country.
