Sir Okon Okon And Wife Hand Over Economic Science laboratory To UNIUYO
The Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, (AKIRS), Sir Okon Okon, and wife Lady (Barr.) Uwem Okon, ahead of their joint birthday tomorrow, 28th March, 2024 handed over a bespoke Economic Science Laboratory to the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo for use by the Department of Economics.
The event took place today, Wednesday 27th March, 2024, at the Economics Block in the town campus of the University.
The revamped, upgraded and fully air-conditioned laboratory is equipped with 27 sets of Personal Computers (PCs) with software that will aid economic, social and allied data analyses, a projector and an inverter power backup to mitigate against system crashes that might arise from power outages.
Sir Okon Okon, an alumnus of the University (BSc. Economics 1988 class), in his remarks, said that the donation was his family’s humble contribution to his alma mater for the advancement of knowledge.
The handing-over was witnessed by the Management team of the University led by the VC, Prof Ndaeyo, former Vice Chancellor of the University and erudite Professor of Economics, Prof Akpan Hogan Ekpo, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Chris Ekong, and the Acting Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Paul Orebiyi, among other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, the faculty of Social Sciences, out of gratitude for this noble initiative, has named the laboratory after Sir Okon Okon.
