My Stepchildren Prevent Me From Enjoying My Husband, Woman Cries Out
A resident of Kwara State has approached an area court in Centre Igboro, Ilorin, seeking to divorce her husband over interference by her stepchildren.
The petitioner, Rashidat Muritala, told the court that her action was prompted by the behaviour of her stepchildren, which created a misunderstanding between her and her husband, Kolawole AbdulGaniyu.
According to the mother of one, the children, who belong to AbdulGaniyu’s late wife, have not allowed her to enjoy her marriage. She said, “My husband’s children always complain about everything and cause misunderstandings between me and my husband. They don’t allow me to enjoy my marriage.
“The relatives of their late mother went to the extent of confronting me, yelling that I should allow their father to take care of them and stop maltreating them.
“I left home in April after many issues and got an apartment for myself, yet my husband complained that the place is too far from home and refused to visit us.”
The petitioner insisted on divorce without any room for settlement. The respondent (AbdulGaniyu) pleaded with the court to grant them some time for settlement.
The presiding judge, Hammad Ajumobi, persuaded the petitioner to exercise more patience and allow for settlement. The case was adjourned to December 28 for report of settlement.
