Ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial elections, Dist. Sen. Gershom Bassey, a leading aspirant in the gubernatorial race and Senator representing Cross River State Southern Senatorial District paid an official visit to the amazing people of Obanliku to apprise them of his ambition to lead the State in 2023.
The Distinguished Senator was received by a mammoth crowd of party faithfuls, Youths, women and Men of Obanliku.
In the course of the august meeting, the Obanliku Chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Justine Ejisekpe in his address, began by appreciating the Dist. Senator for his benevolence, magnanimity and altruistic nature.
He said the Dist. Senator embodies and typifies a good example of a Leader who is desirous of changing the lives of his people.
Pledging maximum and unalloyed support to the Distinguished Senator, the Chapter Chairman in his words said; _”Obanliku people shall mobilize enormously for Sen. Gershom Bassey because he is down to earth and he is a man of the people and power must return to the South as people with good conscience, we will stand by the South no matter the intimidation, we believe in Sen. Gershom Bassey that he can reclaim Cross River State”_.
He appealed fervently to the Senator to remember Obanliku Youths who are idle and empower them upon his emergence.
The Chapter Chairman also seized the moment in time to present the 5 serving councilors who returned to the PDP to the Distinguished Senator. The five councilors are; Hon. Adida Justin, Hon. Ololo Francis, Hon. Helen Ejikang, Hon. Ogor Doris and Hon. Polycarp Ugiugbong.
The Councilors also drummed massive support for the incoming Governor and assured him of their complete loyalty in midwifing his ambition. The Member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber ,Rt Hon Chris Agibe who was part of the Dist. Senator’s entourage and in his remarks stated that “In his culture, night swallows a lot of things, so tonight, we will talk a little. Rotation in Cross River is sacrosanct and anyone who tries to change that is bad for us. No part of Cross River is more Cross River than others. For us in central, we will support the back to South movement and stand in solidarity with Sen. Gershom Bassey”.
In response, Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey began by appreciating the Obanliku People and in stencil said that; _”I have come here today to talk serious business with you. Governance is a serious business because it affects your lives. No need to sit down and look when you have the power to determine who becomes Governor of this State.
So you must think well about what you want to do in 2023. In 2015, we decided in the caucus that the only way the North can benefit from governance is to zone it to the Northern Senatorial District and everyone with aspiration dropped it for the north.
So after Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke and Ayade, who should take the governorship next? The South ofcourse so me Gershom Bassey I shall contest for the office of the Governor. For all those who have indicated interest, I think I have the prerequisite experience for that office.”
Closing his speech, the Distinguished Senator appreciated the good people of Obanliku for their time and wished them a happy Easter. Other members of the entourage were Rt. Hon Bassey Ewa (Former Member, Representing Abi/Yakurr at the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Nelson Ofem (Member representing Yakurr 1 state Constituency), Rt. Hon. Dr. Itam Abang (Member representing Boki 2 State Constituency) and Barr. Mrs. Patricia Enderley Inyang, Former Chairmen, lawmakers, PDP Chapter Chairman across the state, Party stakeholders amongst others.
