Your Policies Are Not Working, Responsible For Hardship, Hunger, Protests; Nigerian Gov. Blasts Tinubu
Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State Governor, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, stating that they have exacerbated the suffering of citizens, leading to increased pain, hunger, and anger.
The governor described this as the driving force behind the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.
While launching the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) campaign for the August 17 local government election in Bauchi State on Wednesday, Governor Mohammed emphasised that the federal government’s new policies are ineffective.
He urged President Tinubu to acknowledge this and make necessary adjustments, saying, “It’s their problem, stemming from their programmes, so they must change their approach.”
Naija News House reported on Tuesday that Mohammed, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described President’s broadcast on Sunday to the nation as empty, stating that it failed to address the grievances of the protesting youths, who took to the streets to protest hunger and hardship.
He had maintained that the speech did not agree with the situation in the country.
“It did not address the problem and challenges,” he said.
However, speaking on Wednesday, the governor said that the problems cut across various levels of governance.
“We can see the manifestations with different colourations – from the North to the South,” he said.
According to him, the Northern region particularly needs to address the problems of hunger, anger, unemployment, and lack of development.
“The new policies of the federal government are not working. They have to understand that,” he said. “It is their problem. It is their programmes that have caused us these problems, so they have to change.”
He urged President Tinubu to reevaluate his policies, saying, “On your behalf, I’m telling Mr. President to change his policy because it’s not working.”
He noted that Tinubu’s actions have widespread consequences, extending to every part of the country and influencing all political parties.
