Hospital Seizes Corpse Of Nigerian Gold Medallist Over N600,000 Medical Bills
The remains of the late Jeremiah “Jerry” Okorodudu, who won a gold medal at the Oluyole 1979 National Sports Festival in Ibadan, was seized by the hospital where he was receiving treatment due to an outstanding N600,000 medical bill.
This was confirmed by his wife, Adenike on Wednesday.
“He is dead now but we still need to pay N600,000 to get his body out of the hospital,” Adenike was quoted by PUNCH.
The deceased died on Wednesday at age 64 after battling foot cancer. When he was alive, he represented Nigeria at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, where he competed in the middleweight category.
He was a gold medallist at Ibadan’s Oluyole 1979 National Sports Festival. His medical predicament began in 2020 with a boil affliction that affected his mobility. He then had a successful surgery at Dans Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos.
But his health relapsed after being diagnosed with a foot ulcer and a stroke.
